Buying a Complete vs Building Your Own Skateboard

Sure, complete skateboards can be cheaper than customizing your own board, but at times, there are disadvantages to getting a complete. The first thing that you have to know is that complete boards are not designed as well for you as the ones that you can buy separately.

Some completes may offer good quality decks but have mediocre trucks, bearings and sometimes substandard bushings. And for beginners, this is fine. But for skaters who have certain preferences, a complete is rarely the solution. Many complete skateboards offer low quality bearings and wheels to save on costs even if the deck is great.

Another reason why it’s better to build your own board is that you can choose products according to your preferences. This is important to skaters since we all have different preferences depending on whether you want to focus on verts, cruising, or whatever. Usually, skateboarders do not like buying complete skateboards because the choices are very limited. When buying parts to customize your own board, you can choose what size your deck should be, the weight of the trucks and their width, the size of the wheels and their characteristics, the bearings and the looseness or tightness of the bushings. There are a lot of reasons why you should want to build your own board and not buy a complete one. So just save a bit more money so that you can build your own.
